This is the doctoral thesis of the late Dr Wahib Kozman (1931–2021), written under the supervision of the Very Rev. George D. Dragas (completed in 1991, with the degree conferred in 1992). Kozman was one of a number of Copts sent abroad (first to Athens, then to the England) to receive postgraduate training in theology under the auspices of the Patristic Centre founded by Dr Noshy Abdelshahid. It is reproduced here in its entirety for academic/personal use only, in accordance with the policies of the Durham E-Theses database.
